Vintage Sheet Quilt

I've finally finished my vintage sheet quilt.
It is the first proper quilt I've made.
All the fabric used was either thrifted, swapped or gifted to me.
The cotton wadding was someone else's cast off.
I'm quite pleased with how it turned out.

It has taken a while to make
and I have stalled several times along the way.
But, I have enjoyed the process and learnt a lot,
especially about how to compile and finish the quilt
after sewing all my squares together,
 including pinning, quilting and binding.

I initially set out to learn how to free motion quilt,
but ended up quilting by stitching either side of my seams.
I'm pleased I did.

I'll have to try free motion quilting on the next one.
I'm sure there will be one.

  6. Oh wow Cait - it's amazing! You've done such a lovely job. I love the idea of quilting, but my finishing skills leave a lot to be desired, so I'm afraid it would just end up looking like a mess!

  12. Congratulations on your first quilt! How wonderful it looks. So neat for a first quilt too! Mine was nowhere near as lovely. I have noticed that quilting can be quite addictive... perhaps that can be said for all crafts though? :)
