I've been making purses.
After putting in zips on the recent squab and cushions covers I made,
I decided I needed to practice and improve on zippers.
When the Dr's Aunt gave me a bag full of small zippers,
I decided to practice on purses.
I started with this little purse.
I used cotton drill fabric from Ikea for the outside,
a thrifted vintage sheet fabric to line it and a strip of leather as a zipper pull.

It probably wasn't the best place to start, being on a curve and so fiddly.
Whilst this little purse was a one off for me, I do like it
and have gone on to make a few more different purse, which I'll share soon.
The pattern I used was from this book:
I didn't have a metal purse frame, so used a zip instead and
enlarged the pattern by 150% rather than the 200% suggested.

Wow! Well done. This is so impressive! What a great idea to adapt the pattern to use what you have.
ReplyDeleteThere's nothing quite like skipping the easy stuff and going straight to the challenging patterns is there!?
Wow, I didn't realise it was so small, that would be so challenging!
ReplyDeleteAnd it looks great!!! You are very clever
It's so cute! I am yet to brave zips and just use envelope openings on any cushions I make or steer clear completley of purses!!!
ReplyDeleteLove it -and love that book!
ReplyDeleteYes yes yes - I loved lots of the projects in that book. Good on you for attempting the zip on a curve - that seems to be a bit of a theme with show and tell this week?
ReplyDeleteVery cute. Small things are always the hardest to sew!
ReplyDeleteIt's lovely! And great improvising with the zip. I haven't used metal frames yet but would like to try one day.
ReplyDeleteSo very cute!
